(一)英语祝贺信的定义

祝贺信是一种向收信人表示祝贺的信件，一般用于对方有什么喜事或取得了什么成绩，如婚姻、节日、寿诞、毕业等。

祝贺信是人们情感交流的一种方式，多写祝贺信可以使亲友同事之间加强联系，增进亲情。

(二)祝贺信的主要内容

1.祝贺事由

首先要用简略的语言写明祝贺的事由，也就是祝贺什么，为什么祝贺。必要时，也可以写出自己是怎样获得这个好消息的。

2.祝贺语

用热情的语言向对方表示鼓励、赞扬、祝福。有时，也可以有所发挥，谈一些相关的看法和建议。如在祝贺成绩的贺信中，可以分析一下对方所取得成绩的主客观原因，在庆贺婚姻的贺信中，可以谈一些自己对幸福婚姻生活的看法等。

3.结束语

正文的结尾要写上再次表示祝愿的话。如：“best regards to you.”(祝你一切都好!) “i wish you success and fulfillment in the years ahead.”(祝你事业成功，万事如意!)

(三)写祝贺信的注意事项

祝贺信的写作格式可以比照一般书信的格式，即由信头、信内地址、称呼、正文、结尾语、签名等几个部分组成。但根据亲疏关系的不同，有些祝贺信可以随意一些，比如信内地址有时可以省略，而信头也可以写得简略一些。

写祝贺信要充满热情、喜悦，说些鼓励、褒扬的话，使对方能够感到温暖和振奋。

赞美对方要做到实事求是，恰如其分，不要故意拔高，更不能有献媚的嫌疑。

祝贺信要做到整洁、大方，用词要恰当、简练，篇幅不宜太长。所用信封和信纸都要经过认真选择，要显出郑重的态度，不可过于随意。

祝贺信是由于某种原因向收信人道贺的信件，一般包含三个部分：

1. 点明要祝贺的事情，并向对方道贺

3. 再次祝贺
